idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

Abnormal wound healing response to lung injury is thought to be the cause of fibrotic lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). For unknown reasons, the normal process of wound healing can go out of control and results in the production of excessive scar tissue in the lungs. BMS-986278 is a potential treatment designed to prevent this out-of-control response.

The study treatment will be tested at doses of either a low dose or a high dose, (given by mouth twice daily) compared to placebo. A placebo is a medication with no active ingredients. It looks like the real thing but is not.
